In 1781, Jefferson completed the first edition of Notes on the State of Virginia which contained the following statement: "But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." This week, Jefferson details his views on religion and the importance of the separation of church and state.
